About the Ball

What is the Ball

The Science Students' Ball is UTN's most elegant event. This ball has been held every other year since 1983 and traditionally takes place at Uppsala Castle. Since 2020, the Science Students' Ball has been an annual event.

At the Science Students' Ball, students, professors, and officials gather to enjoy a magnificent three-course dinner. The evening features high-quality entertainment and inspiring speeches. During the ball, UTN’s Pedagogical Award and the Gold Merit Medal are presented.

The Pedagogical Award is given to a lecturer, selected by students, who has made an exceptional contribution to their education over the year. The Gold Merit Medal is awarded to an individual who has significantly advanced UTN and its efforts during the year.

The evening concludes with a ball drop, where guests enjoy both traditional ballroom dancing and club-style dancing. The Science Students' Ball in 2054 will take place on February 22nd.
Who are we?
Uppsala Union of Engineering and Science Students, UTN, is the student union for those studying engineering or science at Uppsala University. As a student union, UTN operates in many exciting areas related to your student life. Its primary mission is to safeguard and promote students' interests in education, a task known as academic advocacy. This is done to ensure that students at the Faculty of Science and Technology receive the best possible education!

Four students work full-time with academic advocacy at UTN, and together with representatives from each section association, they assist with everything from navigating tricky course administration and addressing poor working environments to providing information on exchange studies and amplifying student voices. The academic advocates also handle individual student cases.

In total, 11 students work full-time at the union to make your student experience as great as possible. Feel free to stop by the union house, Uthgård, and say hello!

Beyond academic advocacy, UTN also focuses on career connections and social activities, organizing many fun events to enrich your student life, such as the River Rafting, the Utnarm career fair, Sweden’s largest Rebus Rally, and the Science Students' Ball at the castle!

By becoming a member, you support the union’s work, which ultimately helps both you and your fellow students to ensure that your education and student life are the best in Sweden. The more members we have, the stronger our voice becomes.
